RESEARCH DATA:

A miniature version of ulbung, or ulbong, also known as ulfung, by the Ifugao and also known as kamuwan in Kankana-ey. It is a jar-shaped rattan basket from Bontoc, Mountain Province. As a miniature version, it was used as a container for jewelry and beads.

Its larger versions were used as storage for hulled rice. It is one of the few baskets in the Cordillera that is constructed using the coiling technique known as the binali style. Chinese ceramic jars served as a model or inspiration for the Ifugao basket weavers to create the ulbung’s curved form or jar-like shape (Hamilton, 1998).
