Utilitarian Objects
Across the Cordillera, a wide variety of containers, tools, and utensils were notably manufactured by local artisans. Many of which were produced to serve as functional items for everyday life. Commonly referred to as utilitarian objects, these items also hold cultural significance as they reflect the ways of life in the communities. They also serve as a tangible culture of Cordillera craftsmanship, specifically on carving wood and producing intricately designed yet very useful items. While being fundamentally utilitarian, some of these objects were also either exclusively used by the affluent class or associated with certain rituals. This collection showcases the diversity of Cordilleran utilitarian objects in terms of form and function, materiality, and cultural significance.
