Basketry

Basketry in Northern Luzon Philippines is a reflection of the indigenous people’s ingenuity. They are made to cater to various needs in their everyday life. As a cultural marker, different ethnic groups weave their distinct baskets in various forms, shapes and sizes. As a utilitarian object, baskets are used in various ways: harvesting, transporting, and storing crops and other harvests; as containers for food, a wickerwork for personal accessories or even used in rituals in the community.  The well-crafted baskets are made from bamboo, rattan and vines carefully sourced out from their immediate surroundings.
